Roman remains unearthed during Málaga metro works
Ancient skeletons discovered as excavation continues near Hospital Civil

The discovery was confirmed by the Ministry of Public Works, which stated that the remains were found as part of excavation work for the metro extension heading towards the Hospital Civil. The skeletons have since been carefully removed and transferred to the Málaga Customs Museum for further examination.
The process was carried out with approval from the Department of Archaeology and in coordination with the Málaga Territorial Delegation of Culture.
These are not the first archaeological finds to emerge since work began on the metro expansion project. Given the city’s rich history, the area has previously revealed various artefacts and structures dating back centuries.
The current metro extension is a 1.8 kilometre stretch which will eventually include three new stations: Hilera, Trinidad and Hospital Civil. Once completed, the line is expected to improve transport links across several Málaga districts, particularly Bailén-Miraflores – the city’s fourth most populated area, home to some 60,000 residents. It will also initially serve the Cruz de Humilladero and Centro districts.
Although a full analysis of the remains has yet to be released, the discovery adds to the rich tapestry of Málaga's history, offering a glimpse into the city's ancient past as modern infrastructure developments continue.
