ARCHIVED - Ryanair launches 21 new UK routes, including flights to Spain
The winter destinations in Spain include Lanzarote, Asturias and Barcelona
At a press conference this week, Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary announced that the airline will operate 21 new routes from UK airports this winter, including destinations to Spain, Italy and France.
The budget carrier boss confirmed his plans to lead the sector’s recovery in Spain by offering more seats, but also reiterated his warning that the days of excessively cheap flights in and around Europe are gone.
“The era of low fares is not over, but the era of really cheap and cheerful airfares are gone for a couple of years,” he said.
He added: “This winter Ryanair is offering its UK customers lower fares and more certainty with their winter travel plans, as it operates a full schedule of over 3,000 daily flights with many new routes and unbeatable value for UK’s consumers and their families.”
Never one to miss an opportunity, Mr O’Leary once again criticised “hopeless Heathrow” for introducing daily flight caps but he assured those present that current pay negotiations should soon put an end to the interminable summer strikes. Following claims that Ryanair cabin crew were spotted rifling through plane bins to feed themselves, the airline boss confirmed that the company hopes to increase flight attendant wages across Europe by 8%.
Keen to promote the new winter schedule, Mr O’Leary pressed on: “As we continue to grow and add capacity in the UK, our customers have over 440 exciting winter sun, ski and city break destinations to choose from this winter including 21 new routes to the likes of Lanzarote, Venice and Stockholm.”
Ryanair’s new routes for winter 2022:
- London Stansted to Asturias, Catania, Klagenfurt, Lapland and Leipzig
- Birmingham to Billund, Grenoble, Santander, Stockholm, Toulouse and Venice
- Bournemouth to Lanzarote and Venice
- Edinburgh to Grenoble and Venice
- Manchester to Klagenfurt, Podgorica and Turin
- Newcastle to Barcelona and Cork
- Liverpool to Rome
