Ryanair reunites Irish golfer with his trophy after Spain baggage rule fiasco
The competitor was told at the boarding gate in Sevilla that his golf trophy was too big to bring on board
In a heartwarming turn of events, Ryanair has come to the rescue of an Irish golfer who was initially denied the chance to bring his hard-earned trophy home on a flight from Spain. Joe Lyons, a talented Offaly native, had just won the Spanish Senior Men's Amateur title in Sevilla when he was told that the trophy wouldn't fit in his or his wife's hand luggage, and couldn't be brought on the plane.
Feeling frustrated, Joe told the airline it could just keep his cup, knowing it would most likely end up in the bin, and he took to social media afterwards to voice his frustration.
"Thank you, Ryanair for refusing to allow me bring the Spanish Open Trophy home with me after a great week in Seville," he tweeted.
"I just think Ryanair should be called out for it," Joe added.
But in a turn-up for the books, the budget Irish airline has since reached out to Joe and offered to fly the trophy to Ireland themselves. Ryanair informed Joe that they would put the trophy on a flight that night and arrange for it to be couriered to his home in Galway the following day.
Needless to say, Joe was overjoyed by the sudden change of heart, taking to Twitter once again to express his gratitude.
"All's well that ends well. Ryanair have just called me and said they are putting the trophy on a flight tonight and will courier it to Galway tomorrow! Thank you," he exclaimed.
His followers were equally delighted by the news, congratulating Joe on the successful resolution and praising Ryanair for their willingness to make things right. One user commented, "Congratulations Joe, and Vera (his golf buggy) too. Glad you have ironed it all out with @Ryanair!"
