ARCHIVED - Second lowest incidence rate in Spain: Andalusia Covid update December 3
Despite being among the best, the number of new cases in Andalucía continues to rise
14-day incidence rate in Andalucía since March 2020
Unsurprisingly, the number of new infections continues to rise in Andalucía but luckily hospital pressure continues to remain stable, with not many more people going into hospital or dying from coronavirus in the region, which actually has one of the best cumulative incidence rates in Spain.
New infections
Andalucía recorded a total of 1,233 coronavirus infections in 24 hours on Friday December 3, the second consecutive day with more than 1,200 infections and the highest figure since the beginning of September.
The 1,233 cases reported this Friday follow the 1,226 on Thursday, 868 on Wednesday, 915 on Tuesday, 883 on Monday and Sunday, 741 on Saturday and 1,045 last Friday.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day incidence rate has increased by seven points in the last 24 hours and stands at 118 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, whereas last Friday it was at 90.1 and earlier this week it was 99.5. In fact, after Extremadura, Andalucía is actually the autonomous community in Spain with the lowest cumulative incidence rate.
Hospitalisations
There were 140 more people sent to hospital with coronavirus, which, despite the rise in new cases and the incidence rate, is not a massive jump up from last week when there were 129 hospitalisations.
This is partly because the age groups with the highest rate of positive cases, from zero to 12 years of age and from 30 to 45 years of age, “do not have a corresponding pressure on health care”, according to the Andalusian Minister for Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre.
Deaths
The figures from today, Friday December 3, show three new Covid deaths, compared to four yesterday and five a week ago.
Recovered
Over 1,500 more people have recovered from coronavirus since Monday, taking the total since the start of the pandemic to 798,169.
Vaccinations
There are also 6,841,484 over-18s who have been fully vaccinated, which is up to 80.8%.
In the age group of over-60s, the vaccination level is actually over 100%, taking into account the third booster jabs that are now being given out.
