ARCHIVED - Series of fake bomb threats sweeps Spain
Police have arrested one person who made bomb threats in Malaga and are searching for another in Murcia
Police in Spain are on the hunt for an individual who phoned the Emergency services this Sunday, March 19, to say that there was a bomb in a department store on Gran Vía in Murcia city.
At about 6:45pm on the day in question – Father’s Day in Spain –the Emergency phone number 112 received a call from a person who claimed that there was an explosive device inside the Corte Inglés on the city’s main thoroughfare.
As it was a Sunday, the store was shut, but officers rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area, while a café nearby was evacuated as a safety measure.
But when investigators inspected the store, they confirmed that there was no bomb, and they are now searching for the culprit of this bomb hoax.
Meanwhile, on the Costa del Sol, a 20-year-old woman has been arrested for threatening to put three bombs in a well-known shopping centre in Malaga city. She wrote on Twitter that she was going to place three explosives in a popular food establishment last Tuesday, March 14, and warned people not to go there at 5pm that day as that was when she claimed she was going to set off the deadly devices.
While there weren’t actually any bombs planted or set off, the women has been tracked down and arrested for the crime of public disorder. Her Twitter account has been suspended.
