ARCHIVED - Sevilla homeless man hits the jackpot with lottery ticket gifted by stranger
In scenes reminiscent of a feel-good movie, a priest in Andalusia then helped the homeless man claim his 35,000 euro winnings

The life of a Sevilla homeless man has been changed forever thanks to the generosity of a stranger and a parish priest.
The incredible story began with a brief conversation between the lucky winner and an ONCE lottery ticket salesman at a bus station in Ávila. The homeless man, who has not been identified, was taking a rest and explained he had a long bus journey ahead of him.
For reasons only the ticket seller knows for sure, he gave the complete stranger a ticket, which the fortunate recipient held on to throughout his journey.
Once at a hostel in Sevilla he remembered the kind gift, and the following morning decided to go and check to see if he had won anything.
Incredibly, he had – a whopping 35,000 euros – but here's where problems arose.
The Sevilla man had lost his ID card and had no other documentation to prove his identity, making it impossible to claim his huge winnings.
And here the heart-warming tale took another turn, as a parish priest from Mayorga de Campos offered to help, according to press reports, lending him the money to travel to Valladolid and covering the costs of a new DNI (Spanish national identity card).
Ten days after learning of his big cash gain, the homeless man was able to claim his life-changing winnings.
