ARCHIVED - Sevilla police save infant from drowning in an inflatable swimming pool
The infant nearly drowned at a pool on the El Campillo urbanisation in Sevilla, Andalucia.
Officers from the Guardia Civil have saved the life of a 16-month-old child who was drowning in an inflatable swimming pool in Sevilla.
The incident took place at around 6.20 pm when police received reports of the child struggling at a pool in the El Campillo urbanisation.
Once at the scene, police found the infant's father trying to resuscitate the child before agents took over, putting her in the safety position and carrying out CPR, eventually succeeding in restoring natural breathing.
Health workers later arrived and took over, transferring the infant to the Sevilla Children’s Hospital for a thorough medical examination.
The child’s family have since thanked the officers for saving the baby.
Drownings sadly increase in Andalucia each year in the summer as the warmer weather tempts many to cool off in the water, with health workers regularly called out to deal with those who get into trouble swimming in rivers, the sea and private pools.
