Seville introduces Camino-style 'Sierra Morena Passport' to boost rural tourism
Inspired by the Camino de Santiago, the new initiative invites visitors to explore ten inland towns in northern Seville

A new travel experience inspired by the Camino de Santiago in the north has just been launched in southern Spain, giving visitors a fresh way to explore the quieter side of Seville province.
The Sierra Morena Passport has been introduced by the Junta de Andalucía to encourage tourism in the Sierra Norte area, a region better known for its rolling hills, natural parks and traditional villages than big-name attractions.
Much like the pilgrim’s credential used on the Camino, the passport allows visitors to collect stamps as they travel between ten participating towns. The idea is to encourage tourists to turn a rural road trip or weekend escape into something more interactive, while gently guiding travellers towards places they might otherwise overlook.
The goal is not just to attract visitors, but to showcase local gastronomy, traditions and crafts that are often missed by those who stick to the city.
The route includes towns such as Constantina, Cazalla de la Sierra and Almadén de la Plata, along with several others dotted across the Sierra Morena mountains. Each stop offers its own character, from historic streets to scenic countryside, making the journey as rewarding as the destination.
Those who manage to collect stamps from all ten towns will receive a small reward, typically a selection of local products, adding an extra incentive to complete the route.
While more than six million people visited Seville last year, the vast majority stayed within the capital, visiting landmarks like Seville Cathedral and the Royal Alcázar of Seville. This new passport aims to spread those visitors more evenly and highlight the rich landscapes just beyond the city.
For travellers looking for something a little different, the Sierra Morena Passport offers a slower, more immersive way to discover one of inland Andalusia’s hidden gems.
