Spain voter fraud: Suspects arrested in ongoing Almeria investigation into vote buying
At least seven people have been arrested in the Andalucía town of Mojácar in connection with purchasing votes
Following the arrest this week of nine people in the Spanish exclave of Melilla for purchasing postal votes, it has been revealed that the Guardia Civil has now arrested seven people in a similar operation targeting voter fraud in the Almeria town of Mojácar.
This Sunday May 28, Spain goes to the polls to vote in the first municipal elections in four years, to elect the leaders of the Ayuntamientos (Town Halls) for the next legislature.
Suspicion of foul play ahead of next Sunday’s elections is spreading, and a dozen arrests are expected in the Almeria police operation.
In the early hours of this morning, Wednesday May 24, the Guardia Civil entered the homes of several people in Mojácar, at least two of whom appear on the electoral lists as candidates for the PSOE party, as well as their collaborators, although the role and identity of the persons arrested are not known at this time.
