Spain's national pizza championship picks top 3 pizzas to eat in Murcia: Here's where to find them
The general public alongside a jury of experts have selected the best that Murcia has to offer when it comes to pizza

The results are in and the three best pizzas in Murcia have been chosen. In case you weren’t aware, pizzas have a championship in Spain that chooses the best that the country has to offer each year. The judging is tough, the competition is fierce and the winners are worthy in the list of best pizzas in Spain.
The winners have been chosen by customers of the 150 establishments that participated in the championship, together with a jury of pizza experts that is chaired by the famed Italian chef Andrea Tumbarello.
The dough, ingredients and the overall flavour of the pizzas were evaluated in order to pick the best that was on offer in the world of pizzas in Spain. Moreover, each region is given a top three ranking for the best pizzas on offer in that part of Spain.
In the case of Murcia, the three best were found in the restaurants Pizzeria la Ritornata, located in the Molina de Segura district of El Llano, The Verona restaurant, located in Bullas and the Mondo Napoli establishment, in Alcantarilla.
Each restaurant also has a specific pizza in which they have been given specific praise. In Pizzeria la Ritornata, there is a pizza named ‘La Pistachosa’ which won high acclaim for its use of pistachio pesto.
In The Verona, it is the ‘Elementare’ pizza, made using smoked aubergine and shrimp; while in the Mondo Napoli restaurant it is the ‘Sapore di Sole’, featuring Philadelphia cream cheese, that has been widely recognised.

The overall winner in Spain was found in Madrid in an establishment called the Búfala Fest restaurant, and it was their ‘Baldoria’ pizza that was chosen as their finest example of great tasting pizza. In second place was a pizza from a restaurant in Palencia, named the Sicilian Pizzeria Kuró. In third was the ‘Caminito’ from La Bicicleta Pizzeria in Seville.
