Spanish fugitive wanted in France arrested in Murcia
The criminal, who is accused of sexually assaulting a child, was apprehended in Cehegín
Agents of the National Police in Murcia have apprehended a 33-year-old Spanish man wanted by the French authorities for his involvement in the sexual assault of a minor.
The arrest was made possible through a collaborative effort between the French Police’s Sirene office, which issued a European Arrest and Extradition Order (Oede) against the suspect, and the Spanish National Police.
According to reports, the suspect was located hiding out on a farm on the outskirts of Cehegín in the Region of Murcia, where National Police officers were able to track him down following a thorough search operation.
The man is accused of committing the sexual assault in France, where he could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
After his arrest, the suspect was taken into custody and brought before the Central Investigative Court. He has since been transferred to Madrid from Murcia, where he will be held until his extradition to France can be processed.
