Spanish heatwave refuses to let up: Andalusia weather forecast July 17-23

Andalucía weather warnings, Monday July 17

There are weather warnings for extreme heat issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) over almost all of Andalucía for the next three days at least, and possibly beyond.

This autonomous community in the south of Spain can expect temperatures at the beginning of this week to be in the baking hot region of 43-46ºC, especially around Seville and Cordoba.

The coastal areas like the Costa del Sol, Cadiz and Almeria will see highs of around 31-35ºC, and maybe even up to 37ºC.

The weather forecast so far predicts that the hottest day of the week will be this Monday July 17, when temperatures will be around 42ºC and may reach up to 46ºC for brief spells.

Tuesday 18 may even down misty and foggy on the coast of Malaga, Cadiz and Granada, and this area might get more cloud than other parts of the region as we go through the week and there will be generalised, low-level easterly winds, helping to create a bit of a cooler feeling.

In the eastern sierras of Andalucía from Wednesday 19 onwards, there will be some added cloud cover and there may even be some localised rainstorms in Granada and parts of Jaén, which will provide some welcome relief for plants and people alike.

There will be a slight dip in temperatures on Thursday 20 and Friday 21, but not enough to classify as ‘cooling down’ as it will still be over 30ºC. This brief respite may not last long, either, as the temperatures will start to go back up again next weekend, so we should be prepared for more extreme heat warnings and temperatures of over 40ºC.

Sunday July 23: Min 18ºC; Max 40ºC
