ARCHIVED - Spanish royal rides over young woman with her horse at Seville Fair
Victoria Federica has hit a woman while riding her horse at the Sevilla April Fair, and left her needing hospital treatment
Minor Spanish royal, Victoria Federica de Marichalar, almost trampled a 20-year-old woman while riding her horse at the Feria de Abril Seville fair, and didn’t even stop to see if she was alright.
Victoria Federica de Todos los Santos de Marichalar y Borbón, Lady of Tejada GE, is the only daughter of the Infanta Elena, Duchess of Lugo, and Jaime de Marichalar – a granddaughter of former King of Spain Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía. That makes her a niece of the reigning King Felipe VI.
She attends the Seville Feria every year, but this year got into trouble after her horse ran into a young woman, according to journalist Gema López.
The Feria de Abril is a world-famous event that kicks off the long summer fair season in Andalucia each year with food, drink, live music and loads of activities, including a lot of horse-related events.
After the incident, the royal continued on her way as if nothing had happened.
“She looked at the girl, made a gesture as if to say ‘are you alright?’ and carried on. The normal thing to do is to stop and see how the person is,” said Ms López.
The victim’s injury was reportedly serious and she was attended to by ambulance staff, who decided that the best thing to do would be to take her to hospital. There, after undergoing an X-ray, she was diagnosed with a sprain.
Victoria Federica, an accomplished horse rider, has defended herself, saying she warned the young woman to be careful. However, the young woman ignored her and came perilously close to the horse, and the royal claimed she did not stop because she hadn’t realised the woman had been hurt.
