Spanish town with ridiculously long name inspires Mastercard to create easy new Click to Pay system

Villanueva del Trabuco has been chosen as a testing ground for a groundbreaking digital payment scheme

Villanueva del Trabuco has been selected by Mastercard as the exclusive testing ground in Spain for its innovative ‘Click to Pay’ system. This new digital payment method aims to eliminate the need for users to manually enter their details with each online purchase, streamlining the process and making transactions quicker and more seamless.

This Andalusian town isn’t the only one taking part in the pilot scheme; Mastercard has handpicked 16 locations across Europe to trial Click to Pay. Interestingly, each chosen town has something in common: a long and cumbersome name. Other participants include Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav in the Czech Republic and Wasterhaar-Vriezenveensewijk in the Netherlands, both of which, like Villanueva del Trabuco, require a fair bit of effort to type out in full. The idea is that by reducing the manual input needed for online payments, the system will improve convenience and efficiency for shoppers everywhere.
