ARCHIVED - Stolen pleasure boats recovered in Malaga and Cadiz
One of the recreational vessels was retrieved after a high-speed sea chase in Malaga on the Costa de Sol
Three pleasure boats stolen from San Roque's Sotogrande, the largest privately-owned residential development in Andalusia and the fourth most expensive place to buy property in Spain, have been recovered in Malaga and Algeciras, Cádiz.
Although the recreational vessels have been reclaimed, an investigation is still underway to identify and arrest the thieves.
An investigation involving the Algeciras Guardia Civil and Malaga Maritime Service began on August 10 when officers from the Guadiaro police station in San Roque were notified of the theft of three boats from Sotogrande marina.
A search and surveillance operation was immediately activated and patrols soon spotted one of the stolen boats sailing along the coast of Malaga.
Malaga Maritime Service set chase at high-speed but the thieves managed to ditch the pleasure boat further along the coast and make-off on foot.
The other two stolen sailing boats were found abandoned in Algeciras' Saladillo dock and the Palmones River.
All three vessels have since been returned to their legitimate owners and the investigation continues.
