Strikes planned in Andalucía ITV stations this September
These are the dates when the Spanish car inspection services will be on strike
Andalucía’s ITV (Inspección Técnica de Vehículos) centres are set to face significant disruptions this September as the trade unions UGT and CCOO have called for eight days of strike action across the region.
The strikes, scheduled for September 19, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28 and 30, will see full-shift closures as workers demand the updating of their collective bargaining agreement.
The strikes come after months of unresolved tensions between Veiasa, the public company managing the ITVs, and the unions representing around 2,000 workers.
The unions argue that the current conditions are no longer tenable, and the proposed collective agreement fails to reflect the realities of labour and social conditions for public employees in Andalucía.
Romualdo Barcala, regional coordinator of UGT in Veiasa, voiced the frustration of the workforce, stating that the decision to strike was driven by the company’s persistent refusal to offer acceptable terms.
Barcala emphasised that workers feel disrespected by the public administration and are now compelled to take action to defend their rights.
The labour dispute has been simmering for months, with both sides entrenched in their positions. The unions have accused the Regional Ministry of Industry of stonewalling negotiations, insisting that many of their proposals, such as transitioning to a Monday-to-Friday work week instead of the current Monday-to-Saturday schedule, would have minimal financial impact.
However, the Ministry maintains that the union demands are too costly and have resisted making concessions.
The strike is expected to cause significant inconvenience to the public, with all ITV centres across Andalucía shutting down during the strike days. This action reflects the deep dissatisfaction among the workforce, who have overwhelmingly supported the strike in previous consultations.
