Summer heat arrives with a bang: Spain weekend weather May 22-25
Daytime temperatures will blast past 30ºC in large parts of Spain this coming weekend

Average temperatures expected on Sunday May 25
After weeks of unsettled, changeable weather with storms, heavy rain and blustery breezes, the summer heat is finally set to arrive with a sudden burst this weekend, with highs well above 30ºC forecast in much of the country, and the mercury even tipped to exceed 35ºC in the southwest of the country.
According to Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), temperatures should shoot up on Saturday May 24 following a fairly chilly Thursday and Friday along the Mediterranean and southeast coasts.
Thursday May 22

Before the weather picks up, Thursday will see widespread rain starting in northern Spain early in the morning before spreading to the Balearic Islands and most of the south by late evening. As a result, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community have been placed under yellow alerts for storms.
Both day and night-time temperatures will experience a drop.
Friday May 23

Throughout Friday, the unstable conditions are expected to be concentrated in the eastern half of the country, with cloudy or overcast skies and thundery rain, especially in the far south. Here, the mercury will fall again, leading to a very cool Friday night.
Saturday May 24

Temperatures will begin to sweep upwards as we enter the weekend proper, touching 30ºC in parts of Andalucía and rising into the mid to high-20s in general.
There’s still a chance of weak, scattered showers in the extreme south and northeast, where the cloud cover will be a bit heavier, but for the most part Saturday will be bright, warm and sunny.
Sunday May 25

Temperatures will exceed 25ºC in large areas of the country on the Sunday. Thermometers should settle between 30 and 32ºC in capital cities such as Toledo, Badajoz, Ciudad Real and Madrid, while in the southern half of the country, in cities such as Córdoba and Sevilla, the mercury will reach 33-35ºC.
Clear skies will prevail across most of Spain, although low to medium cloud cover is expected in the north of the country, leaving the skies overcast.
