The Chapel of La Milagrosa or Iglesia Concepción in Totana

The chapel stands on the site of the first known church in Totana

The Chapel of La Milagrosa or Iglesia Concepción in TotanaThe Capilla de la Milagrosa in Totana is a neo-Gothic structure which was built in the late 19th century on the spot formerly occupied by the 14th-century church dedicated to the Purísima Concepción, the first known place of Catholic worship in the town.

The garden in which the Milagrosa stands once contained the Hospital de la Concepción, one of various religious establishments which performed necessary social and medical functions in Totana during the years of disease and  famine in the 16th and 17th centuries. Nowadays, there is a school alongside.
