ARCHIVED - The Crown series 5 now filming in Marbella
The much-anticipated drama is using the Andalucía coastal town to recreate a romantic getaway for Diana and Dodi

The cast and crew of The Crown, the hit Netflix-original drama series based on the lives of the British royal family from the 1940s up to the modern day, have once again been spotted in the coastal resort of Marbella in Málaga, reportedly filming the fifth series of the show.
Director Philip Martin was photographed on Monday September 27 on southern Spain’s glorious Costa del Sol, and insiders have hinted that the scene being shot this week could be emulating Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed’s trip to St Tropez in 1997, as the royals didn’t actually visit Spain in the 90s, which is the period this much-anticipated series is covering.
Just weeks before their fateful trip to Paris in August of 1997, Diana and Dodi were snapped by paparazzi enjoying a quiet moment on his luxury yacht ‘Cujo’, where a vintage Mercedes could be seen in the background. The final two series of The Crown will follow the story of Britain’s royals up until 2003, and the scene being filmed in Marbella this week features a strikingly similar boat and extravagant car.
The Crown is no stranger to southern Spain, as several scenes have already been filmed on the Costa del Sol, including the iconic moment when Princess Diana and her lover Dodi were snapped in a passionate embrace on the deck of his boat mere months after her divorce from Prince Charles was announced.
