These are the summer buses to the Cabo de Gata beaches in Almeria
Massive discounts are available for buses to the beach from Almería and San José
This summer, there will be buses every day of the week connecting the town of San José and Almería city with the incomparably beautiful beaches of the province’s Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park.
The Metropolitan Transport Consortium of the Almería Area will be responsible for managing the service in the which, in the San José area, has restricted access during the summer period.
These beach buses will run between Friday July 12 and Sunday September 1, 2024, with a coach leaving each hour starting at 10.30am and with the last return from the beaches scheduled for 8pm.
The services will depart from the bus stop in the centre of San José and there will be a total of five stops — at the Playa de Genoveses, Playas del Barronal, Playa de Mónsul, Playa Media Luna and Cala Carbón beaches.
Access to these beaches by car is limited as there are strict restrictions on parking in order to protect the ecological value of the Natural Park, which is why the bus service is so important.
In just the first 10 days of the summer, these limited access beaches of the Cabo de Gata have registered almost 5,000 vehicles.
While the buses are, of course, available for anyone to ride, it is much cheaper if you have a rechargeable green metropolitan transport card as it discounts ticket prices by up to 75%. These bus cards can be purchased at any bus station in Andalucía or at tobacconists (‘estancos’).
Passengers coming from Almería city can combine a trip on the M-212 Almería-San José bus line, run by the company Autocares Bernardo and leaving from the bus station, with a subsequent free transfer to the beaches, which would cost just 80 cents using the bus card. Compare that to a journey with a single ticket, which would cost 5 euros.
Last summer, 16,000 trips on these beach buses were made by people who chose to visit the Cabo de Gata, and this year it is thought that there will be even more.
All timetables and prices can be consulted on the Autocares Bernardo website and on the Transport Consortium website.
