Three Irish nationals killed in horror crash on the A-7 near Málaga
A fourth man is seriously injured after two vehicles collided on the busy Costa del Sol motorway

Three Irish people have died and another has been seriously injured following a car crash on the A-7 motorway near Málaga in the early hours of Sunday morning, June 28, in an incident that has been described as “absolutely devastating” by a local TD.
The collision happened at around 2.30am when two vehicles came together on a stretch of motorway, causing one of them to leave the road and plunge down an embankment.
Emergency services, including firefighters and local police, were called to the scene shortly afterwards. Despite their efforts, two women and one man, all believed to be in their early 20s to mid-30s, were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth Irish national, a man, was seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
All four are understood to be from Mullingar in County Westmeath and had reportedly travelled to Spain for a holiday only days earlier. The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is aware of the incident and is providing consular assistance to the families involved.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Fianna Fáil TD for Longford–Westmeath Robert Troy said he had personally spoken to one of the affected families and described the impact as immediate and overwhelming.
“It’s absolutely devastating news. Unfortunately I know one of the families quite well, I spoke to them yesterday. Needless to say, they’re absolutely devastated,” he said.
“It’s the worst of phone calls to get. They only went on holidays at the end of last week, and to get this call yesterday evening was heartbreaking. Our thoughts are with that family and indeed all families that are affected,” Mr Troy added.
