Thunderstorms and hail before another heatwave: Spain weather forecast June 29-July 2
By mid-week, the mercury will approach 40ºC in southern Spain with more tropical nights on the way

Weather outlook on Monday June 29
The last week of June will begin with unsettled weather across most of the country, with harsh storms forecast in eastern Spain and scattered areas of the south. However, from Wednesday onwards, what’s known as a “heat dome” will descend. This is a high-pressure system that acts like a lid on a pot, trapping warm air in an area and causing temperatures to shoot up again.
Monday June 29

According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Monday will start off with mostly clear skies and temperatures well into the 30s, touching 40ºC in the extreme south. Even so, quite heavy rain is forecast along the Cantabrian coast and yellow rain alerts have been issued in the Valencian Community, Murcia and Andalucia.
In these areas, thunder and lightening are likely, and hailstorms and strong winds are also possible as these storms pass through.
Tuesday June 30

The situation will stabilise on Tuesday, with only some light rain along the Cantabrian coast and a chance of some afternoon showers in mountainous areas of the eastern half of Spain.
Maximum temperatures will rise across the board, except in the Cantabrian region, Galicia, the Balearic Islands, and parts of the Mediterranean coast, where they will fall or remain unchanged. Night-time temperatures will rise in the southwest, with uncomfortable tropical nights, where the mercury remains above 20ºC, expected in parts of Andalucia and the Mediterranean coast.
Wednesday July 1

As we head into a new month and the true height of summer, an anticyclone will bring predominantly stable weather to most of Spain, with clear skies or some high clouds.
Temperatures will climb again, with highs above 38ºC expected in the far south and another tropical night in parts of Andalucia, Extremadura and the Mediterranean coast.
Thursday July 2

The settled weather will continue on Thursday with bright, sunny skies and only a smattering of high clouds. Daytime temperatures will remain largely unchanged but the thermometers will still approach 40ºC in the extreme south. Thursday night will also be another muggy, uncomfortable one in southern Spain along the Mediterrnean.
