ARCHIVED - Tour of Spain cycle race passes through Murcia on August 21 and 22
The iconic Vuelta Ciclista a España will pass through Murcia’s Mar Menor next month
The 76th edition of the world-renowned Vuelta a Espana, a three-week cycling race scheduled to take place in Spain between August 14 and September 5, will this year travel through the Region of Murcia.
The 2021 edition will see two stages in the Region of Murcia. The first, on Saturday, August 21, when the tour will arrive in La Manga, after following a stage through the Mar Menor municipalities of Torre Pacheco and Cartagena, and, the next day, the competitors will set off from Puerto Lumbreras.
Murcia will host 134.2 kilometres of the race, in addition to being the finish line of the eighth stage and start of the ninth. The cyclists will arrive in La Manga after racing 173.7 kilometres from Santa Pola and will travel through the coastal municipalities of San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Los Alcázares, Torre Pacheco, Cartagena and El Algar, to finish in La Manga del Mar Menor, at kilometre 9.5.
