Tragic death on Costa del Sol motorway as man tries to flee police

Young man killed crossing A-7 in Marbella after refusing to leave holiday flat and showing fake ID to officers

A young man, believed to be around 25 years old, died on Sunday May 4 after being struck by a car while attempting to cross the A-7 motorway in Marbella. The incident occurred at around 1.52pm near kilometre 1051, as he was reportedly trying to flee from police.

According to sources, officers from the Policía Nacional had been called to a holiday apartment after the man allegedly refused to check out as required. A new family was due to enter the property, but the previous guest would not leave. Police were dispatched to investigate the situation following a call to the emergency services line 091.

When officers arrived and asked the man to identify himself, he showed them a document on his mobile phone. However, the document raised suspicions and the police asked him to accompany them to the station for further checks.

He initially agreed and walked with them towards the patrol car, but just as he was about to get in, he suddenly bolted. He ran through a patch of bushes and climbed over the fence bordering the A-7 motorway, running into the traffic. Tragically, he was hit by a car and died at the scene.

Police sources later confirmed that the identification he had shown them was fake. Efforts are continuing to confirm his identity, though it is believed he is not Spanish.
