ARCHIVED - Travel agency in Spain rips off customers for 80,000 euros and runs away with the money
The customers, who paid their deposits but never got their holidays, locked themselves inside the building in protest
Last June 22, about 30 customers of a travel agency in the town of Íllora, Granada locked themselves inside the establishment and refused to leave until they got their holiday money back.
According to sources, as many as 90 people had contracted holidays and trips with the travel agency, but these vacations later never materialised, leaving the wannabe travellers with neither their excursions nor the funds they had paid as a deposit, which could amount to as much as 80,000 euros.
There was even one group of 18 customers who had paid 400 euros each to travel to Cuba, but were then left with nothing after their trip wasn’t booked.
That’s when the mob took matters into its own hands and decided to stage a peaceful protest.
After two days of occupying the building, the owner of the travel agency finally relented and promised to put things right. The 90 people who had been cheated out of their money gave the woman 15 days to pay them back, or else.
Now, that deadline has passed and, according to the victims, the owner of the agency “has not kept” her promise. In fact, the travel agency has closed down and the owner taken all the money with her
Understandably, the customers who feel they have been cheated by the company are now even more angry and indignant, and are thirsty for justice.
Now they have moved from the erstwhile travel agency and are demonstrating in front of the travel agent’s house to continue demanding that she return their money.
It’s clear the issue should be decided in court as soon as possible before this peaceful action turns into mob violence, and to force the woman and her company to reimburse the disgruntled customers.
