Two Frenchmen arrested for Marbella cafe shooting

Two men of French nationality, aged 20 and 30, have been arrested in relation to a gun attack at a Marbella cafe back in May. According to French police, the pair are also wanted for an attempted homicide in Marseille.

The incident occurred at around 2.15pm on May 17 on an outdoor terrace in the Costa del Sol town of San Pedro Alcántara. According to witnesses, the two hooded suspects ran towards the cafe, where two other men were sitting, pointed their guns and opened fire.

Officials believe there was one main target, and when he rushed inside the building, his assailants fired another shot through the window. Miraculously, no injuries were reported.

In those first seconds of confusion, the 112-Andalucía Emergency service received numerous calls, some of them from customers, who warned of the shooting that had just happened, specifying that no people were injured.

Having missed both times, the attackers jumped into a high-end get-away vehicle and fled the scene. A short time later, the car, which had been reported stolen earlier that day in Benalmádena, was found burned out in Benahavís.

A joint operation was launched between the Organised Crime Group of the Marbella Local Police and the authorities in France, which led to the eventual identification of the shooters.

After the hitmen were arrested in France, a search was carried out on a house and a vehicle. A Kalashnikov, three grenades, a shotgun, a pistol, various ammunition, quantities of hashish and marijuana and forged documentation were seized in the raids.
