UK Most Wanted criminal arrested in Malaga
The violent fugitive was also featured on Crimestoppers before the authorities caught up with him in Estepona
Less than 18 months after the UK’s National Crime Agency released its list of the 13 Most Wanted criminals in the country, the number has dwindled considerably with yet another arrest on the Costa del Sol. Mark Francis Roberts, 29, was collared in Estepona this week after seven years on the run.
Roberts fled the UK back in 2016 after being linked by DNA to a violent robbery. According to the British authorities, he and an accomplice repeatedly stabbed their victim when he refused to hand over his Richard Mille watch, valued at almost 70,000 euros. The fugitive cut his hand during the attack, which led Merseyside Police to finger him for the crime.
Like so many modern-day villains, Roberts made his way to the Costa del Sol where he reportedly settled in the Malaga town of Estepona. His crime-spree continued, however, and last year he was questioned in relation to kidnapping and attempted extortion. Official statements reveal that Roberts, along with several others, was suspected of holding a woman against her will in a house in Mijas and stealing her Rolex while plotting to demand ransom money from her family. The victim managed to escape her captors by jumping from a balcony.
Roberts was included in both the Most Wanted UK list and Crimestoppers, which was launched to identify fugitives wanted by the British authorities and who are suspected of having fled to Spain.
Estepona has been a hotbed of criminal activity this week, and the Guardia Civil have arrested another wanted criminal, this time from the Netherlands. The fugitive, identified only by the initials C.A.B., has been accused of crimes of fraud, money laundering and illegal possession of weapons dating back to 2019.
