ARCHIVED - UK teen killer arrested in Coin, Malaga after 7-year manhunt
The Liverpool man was hiding out on Spain’s Costa del Sol after murdering a teenager in 2015
A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Malaga for the killing of a teenager in Liverpool seven years ago.
David Ungi was believed to be involved in the death of 18-year-old Vinny Waddington, who was riding on the back of a bike in Liverpool in 2015 when he was killed by a single shotgun blast from the passenger window of an Audi A3.
Two more people who were in the car that night, owner Luke Kendrick and Ryan Bate, are already serving life sentences for murder after a trial at Liverpool Crown Court in 2016.
He had fled the UK just hours after the teenage Waddington’s murder, and was also wanted in connection with heroin dealing in the Liverpool area.
Ungi was finally caught on Thursday May 5, along with three other men, as they entered a gym at a shopping centre in Coín, Malaga. When he was nabbed in the Malaga town, not far from Marbella, Fuengirola and Torremolinos, officers found a 9mm Ruger firearm and ammunition in his rucksack.
A Crimestoppers alert was put out for Ungi in 2016, where he was reported to go by the alias of David Riccio.
After appearing in a Malaga court on Friday, Ungi has been remanded in custody awaiting extradition to the UK.
The regional manager of the National Crime Agency (NCA) in Spain, Steve Reynolds, said, “Ungi is a very dangerous person and his arrest is good news for communities both in Liverpool and Spain. These arrests would not have been possible without close cooperation between police forces in the UK and our law enforcement colleagues in Spain and Portugal.
“There are still a number of fugitives on our most wanted list, and they should know we will never give up and we’re never far behind them.”
Anyone with information about a fugitive on the NCA’s most wanted list is urged to call CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or fill out an anonymous online form on their website.
