ARCHIVED - Under 1,000 daily cases in Andalucia: Covid update August 31
980 cases were reported across Andalucía’s eight provinces, including Almería and Málaga
The curve of the fifth wave of Covid in Spain appears to be subsiding in the region of Andalucía as the most recent update on Tuesday August 31 reports under 1,000 cases for the first time in months.
The 980 cases reported in the latest update is the lowest figure since May 18, when 938 cases were recorded in a 24-hour period. This Tuesday’s figure is almost 1,000 cases fewer than last Tuesday’s (August 24), when 1,909 cases were reported.
305 of the daily cases were reported in the province of Sevilla, while the rest of the provinces all reported fewer than 200 cases each.
Fatalities: although the daily cases are decreasing steadily in the region, the same can not be said for the Covid death rate, which has risen to 19 deaths in 24 hours after Monday’s update reported a lower figure of nine. The Covid-related deaths were in Málaga (11), Cádiz (2), Granada (2), Jaén (2), Sevilla (1) and Almería (1).
Hospitalisations: the number of hospital patients is another Covid indicator which has not started to show a large drop yet, with 45 further hospitalisations in the past 24 hours, although there are 259 fewer Covid patients since this time last week. There are also 206 patients in critical condition in intensive care.
By province: Málaga has 273 Covid patients (53 in ICU); Sevilla has 240 (53 in ICU); Granada has 115 (18 in ICU); Cádiz has 97 (22 in ICU); Córdoba has 94 (23 in ICU); Almería has 76 (19 in ICU); Jaén has 71 (10 in ICU); and Huelva has 56 (8 in ICU).
Vaccines: the number of Andalucía residents who have had at least one Covid jab is 6,569,577, which is equivalent to 77.6 per cent of the population, while around 6,009,578 residents have had both doses of a Covid vaccine (or one mono-dose of Janssen); 70.9 per cent of the total population and 80.6 per cent of the target population (over 12s).
Recoveries: 3,326 Covid patients have been given the all-clear in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number in Andalucía to 706,877.
Incidence rate: after dropping out of the extreme risk zone and into the high-risk zone on Monday August 30, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in Andalucía has risen slightly back up to 239.43, but the figure remains below the 250 extreme risk threshold.
Across Spain, eight of the 17 regions are now out of the extreme risk zone, including the Region of Murcia and the Comunidad Valenciana, while other regions, such as Extremadura (469) and Cantabria (330) still have alarmingly high incidence rates.
