ARCHIVED - Underground car park works in El Juncal Mijas now complete
Officials are testing out the new facilities after works to an underground car park in El Juncal, Mijas, are now complete.
As Mijas council works to expand parking services throughout the municipality, the new underground car park in El Juncal is finally finished.
According to the council, before the car park can be opened the facilities will be checked to make sure everything is working correctly, and select a company to run the new car park operation.
The €4 million car park now boasts a total of 162 spaces over four floors as well as two pedestrian access points and lifts at both ends. The building has also been adapted for those with reduced mobility, offering spaces up to five metres wide.
The council has also created a playground and recreation area as part of the plans in a bid to provide more public spaces for locals.
The works were carried out as part of Mijas’s ‘Municipal Parking Plan’ from 2016 when officials looked at almost 20 plots which could be used to provide more parking in the area.
The council is also now working on three further car parks in Las Lagunas, adding another 1,252 parking spaces in a boost for locals and tourists.
