ARCHIVED - Velez-Malaga, Rincon de la Victoria, Coin and Estepona: four Malaga towns were the hottest places in Spain yesterday
These four popular Costa del Sol destinations registered temperatures of over 35ºC on Monday
This week, temperatures are supposed to drop in Andalucía compared with last week, and we won’t have the dangerous highs of over 40ºC that we had this weekend. But it was still a very hot Monday on May 23. In fact, Vélez-Málaga, Rincón de la Victoria, Coín and Estepona in Malaga were the four hottest places in the whole country.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the temperature at the hottest part of the day in Vélez-Málaga, 3.40pm, reached 38.5ºC, well ahead of anywhere else in Spain.
In second place, with 35.8ºC, was Rincón de la Victoria, while Coín and Estepona were just below in third and fourth place with 35.5ºC and 35.4ºC, respectively.
Archena and Molina de Segura in the Murcia Region were also in the top 10 hottest places, as were the towns of Elche and Orihuela in Alicante province.
Some rain is expected in Malaga on Wednesday, which will cool the province down somewhat, but then temperatures will rise again after that.
