WATCH: Gibraltar monkey escapes to Spain
The adventurous primate was eventually captured in Cádiz after more than a day on the run
A Barbary macaque with a taste for adventure has captured the hearts of people all over the country this week after crossing the border from Gibraltar into Spain (without a passport!). The monkey entertained the Cádiz town of La Línea de la Concepción for more than a day with his escapades, leaping from rooftop to rooftop.
A large colony of these monkeys lives in Gibraltar but it’s not yet clear if this daredevil boy made it into Spain on his own or was illegally transported over the border.
The National Police and the Guardia Civil came together to track his movements using drones and the macaque’s adventure came to an end when he was finally tranquillised near the old Melchor inn.

Once he became drowsy, a staff member from the Rock’s Castellar zoo caged the monkey and he was taken back to Gibraltar. The macaque appeared to be in perfect health after his escapade but he was kept under observation overnight.
