Local Police in the Andalusian seaside town of Torre del Mar arrested a 20-year-old Briton after he smashed his vehicle into the front terrace of a café at around 3am on Wednesday July 6.

The young Briton, named only as JTHR, tried to flee the scene on foot but officers quickly caught up with him and performed a breathalyser test: it returned a positive result of 0.54, double the legal alcohol limit for driving.

Thankfully, most of the surrounding businesses were closed at that time of the night but several workers in the cafe as well as the owner had stayed behind to clean up and witnessed the accident.

One onlooker said that the drunk driver’s car careened into another vehicle outside the premises at a speed of up to 100km/h.

The mother of one of the staff members was injured when some terrace tables and chairs crashed on top of her as a result of the impact. The passenger of the car, a 23-year-old, was also wounded in the smash and taken to the Axarquia Regional Hospital in Malaga for treatment.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that a Malaga woman has been fined for illegally riding her electric scooter on the hard shoulder along the AP-7 motorway between San Pedro de Alcantara and Estepona.
