WATCH: Wild boars invade packed Marbella beach
Boars are now a common sight in urban areas of the Costa del Sol
A packed Marbella beach was invaded by a family of wild boars this week that trundled down from the sand dunes and began rifling through rubbish bags in front of dozens of shocked bathers.
The family of six boars turned up on Estrella del Mar beach in Elviria and ducked and dived under deck chairs and between the stunned onlookers before spotting the trash and diving in.
Coming across these animals in urban areas is no longer unusual given their prolific breeding and the expansion of building work into what was once their territory. Experts also believe that the period of Covid lockdown has made wild boars bolder, since they spent months foraging in deserted towns and cities without any human interference.

But boar attacks are also commonplace, and these Marbella beachgoers quickly shuffled out of the pack’s way and left them to get on with their happy hunting.
Last year, astonished Costa del Sol locals watched in awe as a huge boar, later nicknamed ‘the wild boar shark’, darted out of the water at Benajarafe beach and narrowly missed mowing down an elderly couple before disappearing into a thicket of reeds.
And in June, the Orihuela Costa’s Carrer La Mar beach had to be shut when a 100-kilo specimen injured two people. The enormous animal appeared in the water as if from nowhere and the shore was immediately cleared while attempts were made to catch it. This didn’t go to plan though, and after the boar aggressively rammed two rescue workers, the decision was made to shoot the animal to avoid any further injuries.
Wild boar numbers have exploded across Europe and its now estimated to be home to more than 10 million of the animals.
