Here’s what expert meteorologists predict for the week ahead in Murcia

After a weekend in which there was snow in the northern Murcia countryside, as well as hail, landslides and flooding in various parts of the northwest, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has more weather warnings ahead, with a forecast that includes thunder, lightning and heavy rainstorms.

On Monday, the weather forecast is for a bright enough start in the morning, followed by largely cloudy conditions over the rest of the day, with some scattered rainfall and possible thunderstorms in the afternoon, especially likely in the central and northwestern part of Murcia.

One small blessing is that, in all the rain, snow and storms forecast for this week, there is no prediction of strong winds, with windspeeds mainly staying around 5-10kmh most of the time, a very low level.

It is Tuesday which is due to bring the heaviest rain, with thunder and lightning forecast to blanket the entire Region for the best part of the day. In addition, the far northwest is on weather alert for accumulated snowfall which could reach up to 2cm over a 24-hour period in areas above 1,200 metres above sea level.

Temperatures, both at night and during the day, will also be significantly lower than they were at this time last week – a good five degrees lower – bringing a noticeably cooler feeling.

It will pour down on the entire Region all through the night and into Wednesday morning, but at the moment the Aemet forecast is for the showers to suddenly clear up from about midday onwards, leaving drier conditions for the afternoon.

Heading into Thursday there is actually a good chance of sunshine to accompany the cloud cover, and temperatures are forecast to begin to creep slowly up again. The sunny weather is not expected to last into the weekend, but at least Thursday and Friday should provide a bit of a respite before the next downpour.
