ARCHIVED - 20-year-old man drowns after jumping off Malaga rocks known as Tarzan Peak
The deceased perished after making the 10-metre jump at Burriana beach in Nerja, Malaga province
A 20-year-old man from Torre del Mar has drowned after jumping off 10-metre high rocks at Nerja's Burriana beach known as el Pico del Tarzán (Tarzan Peak).
The tragedy happened at the enclave popular with divers and daredevil jumpers at around 5.45pm on Thursday June 2.
Friends of the deceased raised the alarm after the young man disappeared under the water immediately after making the jump.
A large search operation was deployed made up of the Guardia Civil, Local Police, Civil Protection, Maritime Rescue, medical and specialised units from the Armed Forces, divers and a helicopter.
Sadly, their efforts were in vain and the 20-year-old's body was discovered a few metres from where he had landed in the water. He was taken to a nearby cove and medics attempted to revive him but to no avail and his body was removed by the Judicial Police ahead of a post mortem and investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young man's death
