Águilas flood plan activated as orange alert issued with safety advice for residents

Practical safety tips and warnings as heavy rain and storms threaten the area

The Ayuntamiento de Águilas has activated its Flood Plan at pre-emergency level after AEMET issued an orange alert for rain and storms across the region today. The local council, through its Municipal Emergency and Civil Protection Service, is urging residents to take precautions and stay safe as heavy rain is expected.

Key advice includes:

Remove any objects from outside your home that could be swept away by water
If you need to leave your house, disconnect electricity, gas, and water, and avoid touching wet electrical appliances
Do not park vehicles or camp in dry riverbeds or ravines to avoid sudden floods
Never attempt to drive through flooded roads as water can sweep you off the road
Stay informed via radio and other media for weather updates and situation reports
If travel is unavoidable in heavy rain, stick to main roads and drive at moderate speeds
In rural areas, keep away from the base of hills where water might suddenly rush down slopes

These measures are essential to minimise risks and protect people and property as the weather situation develops

Aguilas Tourist Office Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. It is a great summer favourite with Spanish holidaymakers, so always has a superb programme of concerts and activities throughout the summer, as well as the biggest carnival in the Region of Murcia, 40 days before Semana Santa (Easter.)

Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.

The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
