Aledo and Cehegín battle to win Ferrero Rocher's Christmas lights
Public voting is open until Sunday November 8 to decide which Murcia town will represent the region in the national competition
Aledo and Cehegín are competing to become the Region of Murcia’s representative in Ferrero Rocher’s Christmas lights competition. The two historic towns are taking part in the 13th edition of Juntos Brillamos Más, or Together We Shine Brighter. The initiative will transform one Spanish municipality into a festive display of lights.
For the first time, 34 towns across Spain are competing, with two candidates from each autonomous community. The public will decide which of Aledo or Cehegín goes forward.
Voting is open until Sunday November 8 at 11.59pm through the official Ferrero Rocher website.
Aledo’s medieval appeal
Aledo overlooks the Guadalentín Valley and the foothills of the Sierra Espuña mountain range. The town is known for its medieval heritage, including its Keep, traditionally linked to Alfonso X the Wise.
Local tradition says Alfonso X wrote part of the Siete Partidas there. Aledo is now hoping that history, along with its hilltop setting, will win over voters.
Cehegín’s historic streets
Cehegín, in the northwest of the region, has one of Murcia’s most distinctive old towns. It was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1982.
Its cobbled streets, stately homes and landmarks, including the Jasper Palace and the church of Santa María Magdalena, make it a striking backdrop for Christmas lights.
Both towns now have two weeks to rally support from residents, visitors and anyone who wants to see them lit up this Christmas. The winner of the regional duel will be announced on Monday November 9.
What happens next
The 2026 contest, called the “golden edition”, will run in four phases.
- Voting between Aledo and Cehegín closes on Sunday November 8
- The 17 regional winners are announced on Monday November 9
- The five most-voted towns in Spain are revealed on Monday November 30
- The two finalists are announced on Monday December 7
- The overall winner is named on Monday December 14
The winning town will receive Ferrero Rocher’s iconic Christmas decorations, along with national visibility and a chance to promote its heritage to visitors.
Franco Martino, director of communication and institutional relations at Ferrero Ibérica, said: “The true value of our country lies in the authenticity and uniqueness of each of its territories.”
Only one of Aledo or Cehegín can go through, leaving the other to wait until next year for another chance to shine.
