Alicante-Elche Airport breaks another record with 18.6 million passengers
The Costa Blanca’s main airport continues its remarkable growth with its busiest year yet
Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport has smashed its annual record, surpassing last year’s passenger total with more than 18.6 million travellers passing through its terminals by the end of November. The figure marks an 8.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024, confirming the airport’s position as one of Spain’s fastest-growing.The airport had already expected strong results for 2025, but the final figures for the first eleven months show it has comfortably beaten its previous high of 18.4 million passengers. “It has been another exceptional year for our airport,” said a source from the airport operator Aena. “Month after month, we have set new records, with November again being the busiest on record.”
In fact, November ended with 1.4 million passengers, up 10.3% on the same month last year. This steady flow of travellers well outside the traditional summer season highlights what Aena described as “a clear trend towards deseasonalisation” in travel to the Costa Blanca - good news for both tourism and the local economy.
Interestingly, Alicante-Elche’s growth outpaces that of Spain’s four largest airports: Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Málaga. Madrid-Barajas recorded a 3% increase, Barcelona-El Prat 4.3%, Palma 1.5%, and Málaga-Costa del Sol 7.4%. Among Spain’s ten busiest airports, only Valencia-Manises grew faster, with a 9.4% rise.
Much of Alicante-Elche’s success has come from international routes, which rose 13.6% in November alone with 1.23 million overseas passengers. The UK remains the leading market, accounting for 453,903 of those travellers, followed by the Netherlands (95,642), Germany (90,428), Belgium (85,778) and Poland (83,234). Domestic travel, by contrast, saw a 7.5% drop to 178,975 passengers.
The runway has also been busier than ever, with 116,924 flights recorded between January and November, up 8.4% year on year, and a record 9,469 flights in November itself.
Across the wider Aena network, which includes 46 airports in Spain plus London Luton and 17 in Brazil, passenger numbers rose 4.7% in November, showing that growth in Alicante-Elche continues to run well ahead of the national average.
With December’s final figures still to come, 2025 already stands as a landmark year for Alicante-Elche Airport - proof that the Costa Blanca remains one of Spain’s top destinations for international travellers.
