Andalusia ranks second highest in Spain for Blue Flag beach awards
The region of Andalucía will fly a whopping 156 flags this year, second only to the Valencian Community

Andalucía is now the proud host of 156 Blue Flags for the 2024 season, eight more than last year, a recognition of its stunning beaches, ports and maritime operations and the highest number of accolades the region has been awarded since the system began.
With such a fantastic result, Andalucía has received the second-best score in Spain only behind the Valencian Community, which was granted 159 flags by the Association of Environmental Education and of the Consumer (Adeac).
By province, Almería has obtained 35 distinctions (32 beaches and three ports), Cádiz 36 (30 beaches and six ports), Córdoba (one beach), Granada 14 (13 beaches and one port), Huelva 19 (12 beaches and six ports, Jaén (one beach) and Málaga 50 (41 beaches, six ports and three sustainable boats).
In total, Andalucía will have 132.33 kilometres of award-winning beaches in 2024 , which represents 20.38% of the total number of Blue Flags nationwide. In addition, there are 47 municipalities that have beaches with this distinction this year, the same number as last year.
For their part, Andalusian ports, with 17,377 berths, of which 5,391 are directly managed, have obtained 22 awards. This year, both the port of Ayamonte (Huelva) and the port of Adra (Almería) rejoin the list of directly managed ports with a Blue Flag, as reported by the Ministry of Sustainability, Environment and Blue Economy in a statement.
The Blue flag is a quality badge that rewards compliance with standards of hygienic conditions, health, safety, accessibility, information, rescue and first aid, in an initiative promoted by (ADEAC) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
