ARCHIVED - Andalusia reports eight fatalities in 24 hours: Covid update August 17
3,303 new Covid cases since the previous update in Andalucía, with Sevilla reporting the highest number of cases once again

The latest Covid update in the region of Andalucía reveals 3,303 new cases in the past 24 hours, a sharp increase from yesterday’s figure of 1,768 (August 16).
This new figure is very similar to the one reported last Tuesday (August 10), which was 3,418 cases.
By province the Covid cases were in: Sevilla (826), Málaga (761), Cádiz (537), Granada (362), Almería (297), Córdoba (234), Jaén (193) and Huelva (93).
The latest 14-day cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in Andalucía is 457.29; only fractionally lower than the previous figure of 457.63. Across Spain, the incidence rate is falling gradually, although the national average is still 415.9.
Hospitalisations: pressure continues to mount for hospital workers in the region with 68 further hospitalisations in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of Covid patients up to 1,397, of whom 231 are in ICU.
Fatalities: eight Covid-related deaths have been reported since the previous update; five in Málaga and three in Cádiz.
Vaccinations: there are now 6,306,838 people who have received at least one Covid jab, which is equivalent to 74.5 per cent of the population. Meanwhile, 5,414,940 people have been fully immunised against the virus, with 16,068 doses administered in the past 24 hours.
Recoveries: the most recent Covid update details 2,643 recoveries in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people who have survived Covid since the start of the pandemic to 662,369.
Although the incidence rate in Andalucía looks to finally be declining after increasing for 33 days in a row last month, the regional authorities are not letting their guard down and have organised mass testing in 47 municipalities to detect asymptomatic cases.
