ARCHIVED - Andalusia reports further increase in Covid cases; Covid update July 12
The Covid cumulative incidence rate increases in the eight provinces of the Andalucía region for the twelfth consecutive day
The latest update reports over 1,000 more daily cases than this time last week, along with one further death in Granada
The Andalusian regional health authorities have released the latest data for Monday (July 12) and Sunday (July 11), showing a combined total of 3,169 Covid cases for these two days.
The figures for Sunday and Monday are released as combined data and the most recent figure is the largest number of cases for this 48 hour period in the past three and a half months. There has been a clear rise since last week (July 4 and 5), when the regional authorities reported 2,144 coronavirus cases; around 1,000 fewer than this week.
In addition, the cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 residents over the past 14 days has also increased for the twelfth day in a row and now stands at 277.87, which means that Andalucía is in the extreme risk zone (over 250), according to the national government’s classification, and has one of the highest rates in the country.
However, the Andalucía region is far from having the highest rate in Spain, as Cataluña has a rate of 725.59, closely followed by Castilla y León (660.73).
Fatalities: one further Covid-related death, in Granada, has been registered in the past 48 hours, which is around the same level as last week, when two daily deaths were reported in the same 48 period.

Hospitalizations: the number of people hospitalized with Covid has also increased by 32 in the past 48 hours and is now 545, while the number of patients in intensive care has increased by three and is now 118.
Although hospital admissions are a long way from the figures at the peak in the middle of February, when there were close to 4,000 hospital patients, there has been a clear recent rise in hospitilizations.
Málaga continues to be the province with the highest number of cases (1,281), followed by Cádiz (485), Sevilla (338), Granada (337), Córdoba (231), Jaén (203), Huelva (151) and Almería (143).
