A tourist couple on holiday on the Costa del Sol have been fined after footage of them having sex while driving on the A-7 motorway near Marbella spread rapidly across social media, prompting a Guardia Civil investigation that has now concluded with charges against both of them.

 

The incident took place on June 22, when a passenger in a nearby vehicle spotted what was happening and filmed it on his phone through the rearview mirror. The footage showed a naked woman straddling the driver of a high-end grey Mercedes, with the car maintaining speed but visibly drifting from side to side. A second clip captured in the same sequence showed the woman leaning out of the window, completely naked, while the driver's attention was largely on her rather than the road ahead.

 

The videos spread quickly online and the Guardia Civil launched an investigation shortly afterwards. Identifying the vehicle was straightforward, as the number plate was clearly visible in the footage. Officers confirmed it was a rental car and from there traced the couple, both tourists visiting the area.

 

Both have now been formally reported for negligent driving and failing to wear seatbelts, as set out in Spain's General Traffic Regulations. Each offence carries a €200 fine, reduced to €100 for prompt payment. It has not been confirmed whether the seatbelt charge applies to both occupants or only the passenger, so the total penalty is either €200 or €300. In similar cases in the past, incidents of this nature have resulted in prison sentences of up to six months.

 

In a statement, the Guardia Civil thanked members of the public for their cooperation and noted that this kind of citizen reporting is becoming increasingly common, reflecting what they described as a "growing social rejection of behaviours that endanger road safety."
