ARCHIVED - Campillos in Malaga postpones popular August feria but announces programme of cultural activities
The council in Campillos in Malaga, Andalucia, is this summer offering different cultural activities instead of its traditional feria.
As infection levels continue to rise across Andalucia delaying any further easing of restrictions, Campillos council has announced it is postponing its August feria due to concerns over the virus.
According to the council, both the feria and the San Benito Abad festival will be cancelled this year because the scale of the events means officials would not be able to ensure those attending would comply with the health measures in place.
Instead, the council is putting together a programme of cultural and leisure activities to be held throughout the summer, with the full schedule due to be announced in the summer.
The increase in Andalucia’s infection figures over the last month has meant several popular summer events have already been cancelled, including the Juergas Rock Festival in Almeria.
Despite the rise in cases, officials across Andalucia are eager to see attract tourists back to the region and have been announcing measures to encourage travel, including the addition of new routes between the airports in Sevilla and Almeria.
