Defence lawyers call for release of ex-boyfriend of Maracena mayor jailed over kidnapping of Granada councillor
Councillor Vanessa Romero was kidnapped at gunpoint and kept in the boot of a car for several hours in the province of Granada

The defense lawyer for Pedro G., the ex-boyfriend of Maracena Mayor, Berta Linares, arrested for kidnapping and provisionally imprisoned last Friday, has requested his release or that his stay in jail be replaced by internment in a psychiatric centre.
Maracena councillor, Vanessa Romero, was abducted at gunpoint on Tuesday February 21 after dropping her children off at school in the nearby town of Atarfe.
After being kept against her will for several hours, Romero managed to escape and call for help.
Within 24 hours, the mayor's partner at the time was arrested. The mayor later issued a statement saying she couldn't explain what had happened, but assured the councillor was in "good condition" and pledged to defend Romero "to the end".
Perdo G, who was undergoing psychological and psychiatric treatment before his arrest, was provisionally jailed last week, but his lawyer has since formalised an appeal for reform against the prison order without bail issued by which the Court of Instruction 5 of Granada.
He has requested alternative measures, such as admission to a psychiatric center, the withdrawal of the detainee's passport or a restraining order with tag.
The lawyer has insisted that there is no risk of flight or destruction of evidence and has opted for "less harmful" measures for his client.
He has also submitted a letter to the penitentiary institutions in which he has requested that, if his client remains in prison, he be transferred from the prison of Albolote to Alhaurín de la Torre, Malaga, to be closer to his family.
The lawyer plans to present to the court medical reports on the state of mental health of his client, who has received specialised treatment in a private clinic in Malaga.
The court on duty last Friday ordered the proceedings be kept secret and Pedro G. was transferred to the penitentiary centre of Albolot, Granada.
