ARCHIVED - Dying woman saved by dolphin rescue team in Almeria
The woman suffered a heart-attack at Andalucia’s well-known ‘Beach of the Dead’

A tragedy turned into an incredible rescue mission earlier this week when a woman was saved from drowning at Playa de los Muertos in Carboneras by emergency workers who had gone out on a boat to investigate the mysterious death of a dolphin.
The Guardia Civil boat was in the water off the coast of the ‘Beach of the Dead’ in Almeria, guarding the body of the dolphin until experts arrived to examine it, when they heard a shout from a few metres away – a woman had had a heart attack whilst swimming and was drowning.
By a stroke of luck, there was a doctor sunbathing on the beach and he performed CPR on the woman once she was back on shore. She was then transferred to the nearest hospital where she is understood to be in a stable condition.
The cause of the dolphin’s death is being investigated, since it did not present any physical injuries or obvious pathologies. However, the experts have ruled out that its demise was related to the high temperature of the water in the Mediterranean Sea, which has broken all records this week by reaching 30ºC.
