Eight cars destroyed in string of arson attacks in Guardamar del Segura

Crews from three Alicante fire stations were called out to tackle multiple blazes overnight

Eight vehicles were destroyed by fire overnight on Saturday July 18 in Guardamar del Segura, in what the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium has confirmed were a series of deliberate arson attacks. The blazes broke out across several streets in the town, prompting a large-scale response from emergency services.

The first call came in at 11.04pm and crews remained on scene until the operation was brought under control at 4am the following morning. According to the Consortium's report, the fires began on Calle Doctor Luis Rivera, where a person is believed to have gone on to set light to parked vehicles on that road and on nearby streets, one after another.

Firefighters from the Almoradí and Orihuela stations were sent to the scene, with additional crews drafted in from Torrevieja to help bring the various fires under control during the early hours of the morning.

The Consortium has confirmed that nobody was injured in the attacks, with the damage limited to the vehicles themselves. The case has now been passed to the Guardia Civil, who are investigating the incident.
