Orihuela Costa park among 22 children's play areas upgraded across the municipality

Orihuela City Council says dozens more children's parks are set to be renovated as part of its ongoing improvement programme

Families in Orihuela Costa have another refreshed place for children to enjoy after the latest round of playground improvements was completed as part of the council's ongoing programme to upgrade play areas across the municipality.

The work has taken place in the children's park on Calle Lago Bañolas in the Garbanzuelo urbanisation, where crews have replaced around 260 square metres of rubber safety flooring. Existing play equipment and street furniture have also been repaired and refurbished to give the park a new lease of life.

The project was carried out by Orihuela City Council's Department of Infrastructure in collaboration with the Coast Department, with the aim of creating safer, more attractive spaces for children and families.

The improvements in Orihuela Costa are one of three projects recently completed. Similar work has also been carried out in the village of El Mudamiento, where the playground next to the church received new rubber flooring, repaired play equipment and a freshly painted perimeter fence. A third playground, located in Raiguero de Bonanza, is due to be upgraded over the coming days, with new safety surfacing and refurbished play equipment planned there too.

Infrastructure councillor Víctor Valverde explained that many of the municipality's playgrounds need updating after years of regular use, adding that the latest projects are helping to ensure children have safer and better-maintained places to play.

With these latest improvements, the council has now completed work on 22 children's play areas across the municipality. The programme is set to continue after the summer, with another 29 playgrounds due to be upgraded once the current tender process has been completed.

Valverde said the council's aim is to continue reaching neighbourhoods, villages and coastal areas across the municipality, improving playgrounds so they remain safe, accessible and in the best possible condition for local families.

Planning is also under way for future work at Las Espeñetas and Severo Ochoa parks, while the council is preparing an agreement with LABORA that will allow a brand new children's play area to be built in El Escorratel.
