Father fears son who has been missing in Spain for two weeks is dead
Belfast man John Hardy was last in touch with his family on December 14
John Hardy, the Belfast father of two, has now been missing in Spain for two weeks. Having last heard from John on December 14, his family now fears the worst. Billy George, his father, fears his son may be dead and he has traveled to Spain in search of John.
His father has said that all he wants to do is take his son’s body home for burial, and has stated that he will not leave Spain until he gets his son. Billy explained that "My son never stops ringing anybody, even if his mobile was lost he would stop a stranger in the street and ask to lend theirs to ring home… When he didn't get the flight I knew there was something wrong."
John Hardy was due to board a flight home on December 18 but failed to do so. Furthermore, it has recently been reported that the Spanish Police are treating his disappearance as a crime rather than a missing person investigation.
Billy George first became concerned about his son after he failed to receive a response from John after December 14. He states "I was also concerned as I was texting him and I was getting no reply." Since that day two weeks have passed and John has not returned home. His heartbroken father has said his life will never be the same if his worst fears are confirmed.
Billy continued by stating "Christmas Day everyone is sitting down opening their presents - I'm searching the fields looking for my son - that's my Christmas - I'll never have Christmas again." His father continues by saying "I'm so sorry for John's two sons back home. His mother is broken as are his two sisters and other brother. It will never be the same in my home… It's bad enough losing someone, but in these circumstances, it's terrible."
Billy George has stated that he has received great support from the people who know him during this most difficult of times, but he is planning on staying in Spain until he finds his son.
Finally, The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said its officers were liaising with the missing man's family. "While the investigation must be progressed by Spanish police, the PSNI will assist with any local enquiries as requested by them," a spokesperson said.
