ARCHIVED - Fewer than 2,000 patients in hospital with Covid now: Andalusia Covid update February 4
There are a total of just 1,985 patients hospitalised with Covid in the region, and 229 in ICUs

14-day incidence rate in Andalucía since March 2020
The Andalusian Minister of Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, today assured “forcefully” that the sixth wave of the pandemic, marked by the Omicron variant, is in “clear decline”.
However, despite the numbers showing a marked downward trend for the last three and a half weeks, Aguirre acknowledged that “we cannot relax” and that we must be “expectant in the face of mutations” that may occur in the virus. Part of this constant vigilance is a recommendation to keep wearing facemasks outside, even though the central Spanish government is set to abolish the law that makes this obligatory next week.
In any case, the Health Minister expressed his confidence that within 15 to 20 days the autonomous community of Andalucía will enter a “phase of normality”.
New infections
On Friday February 4, Andalucía recorded a total of 5,136 positive Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, 336 fewer than the previous day.
The 5,136 cases reported on Friday follow 5,472 on Thursday, 5,831 on Wednesday, 4,477 on Tuesday, 5,637 on Monday (48 hours), 7,185 on Saturday and 7,602 on Friday.
By provinces, Seville is the one with the highest number of positive cases, with 1,035, followed by Malaga with 920, Almeria with 776, Córdoba with 554, Jaén with 546, Granada with 539, Cadiz with 522 and Huelva with 244.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate stands at 807.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which falls 42.7 points compared to Thursday.
Hospitalisations
Andalucía has now reduced the number of patients hospitalised with coronavirus to below 2,000 and has recorded a total of 1,985 patients on the ward. This is also reflected in the number of admissions to the ICU, which have fallen by seven compared to the figure announced on Thursday by the Regional Government (236), to 229.
Deaths
Twenty deaths were reported in the region in the last 24 hours, 32 fewer than the previous day.
Five of these fatalities were recorded in Almería, five in Málaga and five in Seville, while three were in Córdoba and one each in Cádiz and Granada.
Vaccinations
Meanwhile, more and more people are getting vaccinated in Andalucía, whether with the first, second or third dose. This means that in total 83.3% of people over 5 years of age – 7,058,547 people – have been fully vaccinated and 88.8% – 7,525,461 people – have had their first shot.
